Privacy policy

The Hub is a place to talk with your people. It has no ads, no trackers, and nothing about you is sold. This page says what we keep, why, and what you can do about it.
What we keep
- Your account: username, display name, your password (stored only as a one-way hash, never in a form we can read), your user ID, and the profile you choose to fill in: picture, banner, bio, pronouns, status, colours and badge.
- What you send in spaces: messages, files, stickers, reactions and pins in a space's channels, so the people in that space can see them. These are not end-to-end encrypted, so features like search, mentions, moderation and bots work.
- Direct messages and groups: once everyone in a conversation has opened The Hub, messages and files there are end-to-end encrypted on your device. We store only the encrypted version and can't read it. We still see who talks to whom and when, because the message has to reach the right people.
- Calls: voice, video and screen sharing go directly between the people in the call. When a direct connection isn't possible, the call is relayed through our server, still encrypted; we can't listen in. We don't record calls. Clips you record stay on your device unless you send them.
- Presence: whether you're online, which room you're in, and, if you turn it on, the game you're playing (the desktop app detects it on your computer and only sends its name).
- Your relationships and settings: friends, blocks, the spaces you're in and their roles, notification and privacy choices.
- Technical data: one cookie that keeps you signed in, and the IP address and time of requests in our server logs, kept for a short time to keep The Hub secure and working. If you turn on notifications, your browser's push address.
- Feedback you send through Settings → Feedback, with the screenshot if you add one.
Why we keep it
Only to run The Hub for you: to show your messages to the people you send them to, connect your calls, keep your account safe, fight spam and abuse, and fix bugs. We don't build advertising profiles and we don't sell or rent your data.
Who else is involved
- Our host, OVHcloud, rents us the server The Hub runs on.
- Google Fonts serves the app's fonts, and unpkg serves the library that connects calls. Your browser asks them for these files, so they see your IP address.
- jsDelivr serves the content filter's model, only if you turn the filter on. The filter then runs on your device: your images never leave it for this.
- KLIPY powers GIF search. It receives your search words and an anonymous ID, never your account or name.
- Your browser's push service (from Google, Apple or Mozilla) delivers notifications if you turn them on.
- Apps you sign in to with The Hub get only what you allow on the consent screen. Settings → Data and privacy lists them and lets you remove any of them.
- Bots added to a space can read that space's channels they have access to, like any member.
How long we keep it
As long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, devices, encryption keys, friends, space memberships and notification addresses are removed. Your messages stay in the conversations they're part of, shown from "Deleted user", so those conversations still make sense; delete any of them first if you'd rather they go. Server logs and backups are kept only for a short time and then deleted.
Your choices and rights
- Get a copy of your data: Settings → Data and privacy → Download my data.
- Correct it: change your profile any time in Settings.
- Delete it: delete messages one by one, or your whole account in Settings → Data and privacy.
- Control who reaches you: who can message you, who can send friend requests, and whether your activity is shown.
- If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to object to or restrict how your data is used, and to complain to your data protection authority.
Children
The Hub is not meant for children under 13, or under the minimum age for this kind of service where you live.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app's patch notes before it takes effect.
